Destination wedding in Agra, near the Taj Mahal

A sunrise at the Taj for your guests, a mandap with the dome on the horizon, three days of celebration in a city built for grandeur. Bluebird Events plans your destination wedding in Agra from our office in Tajganj, the neighbourhood around the Taj Mahal.

Few cities let a wedding borrow a wonder of the world as its backdrop. In Agra, your guests can see the Taj Mahal at sunrise, and many of the city's hotels and wedding venues are a short drive from the monument. What it takes is a team that knows how the city works: which day the Taj is closed, when the winter fog rolls in, and how to bring a few hundred guests in from Delhi and see each of them met on arrival.

That is our work. Bluebird Events is a destination wedding planner in Agra, based in Tajganj, and one team handles your venue selection, hotel room blocks, guest transfers, décor, entertainment and every function from roka to reception. Here are straight answers to the questions couples ask first.

A wedding near the Taj Mahal: rules and timing

Can you get married at the Taj Mahal?

Not inside it. The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum and a protected monument, so wedding ceremonies are not held within its grounds. In practice, a Taj Mahal wedding means a wedding near the Taj Mahal: your mandap at a venue in the city, ideally with a view of the dome, and time at the monument for you and your guests.

Two rules shape every plan. The Taj is closed to visitors on Fridays, so a guest visit or shoot never goes on a Friday. And it opens around sunrise, when the light is softest and the crowds are thinnest, so we build the visit into an early morning before the day's functions.

A pre-wedding shoot at the Taj Mahal

You can shoot in the gardens as regular visitors with your own photographer, but expect limits: no photography inside the main mausoleum, no drones anywhere near the monument, security checks that keep props to a minimum, and prior permission from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for professional or commercial filming. The rules are revised from time to time, so confirm them before you fix the date. For a quieter frame, Mehtab Bagh, the garden across the Yamuna, faces the Taj and is lovely at sunset.

The best season for a wedding in Agra

October to March is the sweet spot: pleasant days and evenings made for lawns. November to February also brings the year's busiest wedding dates, so venues and rooms go quickly. Late December and January bring cold nights and dense morning fog that can hide the Taj at sunrise and slow traffic on the expressway, so we plan heaters, indoor back-ups and extra travel time. From April to June, afternoons often cross 40°C, so functions move indoors or into the evening. The monsoon months, July to September, are humid and wet; ballroom weddings work well, and hotel rooms are often easier to get.

Destination wedding venues in Agra

Agra has grand hotels, convention spaces, lawns and a few settings with a view of the Taj. Our team has worked at:

  • ITC Mughal
  • The Oberoi Amarvilas
  • Taj Convention
  • Jaypee Palace
  • Hilton
  • Taj Khema
  • Taj Mahotsav

Knowing a venue from the inside matters more than it sounds: where the baraat can enter, how late the music can run, how far the rooms are from the lawn.

Choosing your setting

You can also choose any other venue in Agra, from five-star hotels to heritage-style properties around Tajganj and Fatehabad Road. We help you shortlist on four things:

  • Guest count and rooms. When guests stay where the functions happen, transfers shrink and evenings run longer.
  • A Taj view, if it matters. Worth it for the mandap or a welcome sundowner; less so for a ballroom sangeet.
  • Indoor and outdoor balance. Lawns for haldi and mehendi, covered spaces for winter nights and summer heat.
  • Your dates. On peak muhurat dates, the right venue is the one still free, so we move quickly.

Destination wedding in Agra: cost and packages

A per-head figure means little until we know your plans. The cost of a destination wedding in Agra comes down to a handful of choices:

  • Guest count and room nights, often one of the largest lines in a destination wedding budget.
  • Venue and food, which hotels usually price per plate, and which tend to rise on peak dates.
  • Number of functions, from an intimate haldi to a full sangeet and reception.
  • Décor scale: mandaps, stages, entrances, florals, draping and lighting.
  • Entertainment and production: artists, sound, light and AV, and effects.
  • Guest travel and care: transfers, welcome desks and hampers.

For more detail, see wedding decorators in Agra for décor, and our event management company in Agra page for sangeet, music and production.

For a first feel, try the budget planner on our homepage. It is indicative, not a price list, and covers roughly ₹15 lakh to ₹50 crore for up to 5,000 guests.

Many couples begin by searching for Agra destination wedding packages. We start from your plan instead: share your guest list, dates and functions, and we will build a proposal around them.

Guests, hotels and NRI families

Getting everyone to Agra

Most guests come in through Delhi. From Delhi's airport it is roughly four hours by road on the Yamuna Expressway, depending on traffic and fog; fast trains from Delhi reach Agra Cantt in about two hours; and Agra's own airport has only a few domestic flights. We arrange airport and station transfers around each guest's arrival, so the last leg is taken care of.

Room blocks and guest care

We hold hotel room blocks early, track RSVPs, set up a welcome desk, place hampers in rooms and run a 24x7 help desk through the wedding, so your guests always have someone to call and you can enjoy your own celebration.

Planning an NRI wedding in Agra

For families flying in from abroad, most of the planning happens before anyone lands. We plan with you over WhatsApp and phone across time zones and schedule arrivals around long-haul flights into Delhi. Elders get a gentle schedule; cousins get a sangeet worth the jet lag. And overseas guests almost always want to see the Taj, so we fit in a visit, never on a Friday.

Every plan follows your muhurat and traditions; this is a common starting shape.

Day one: arrivals and mehendi

Guests arrive to transfers, a welcome desk and hampers in their rooms. The afternoon is for mehendi in a bright, easy lounge, then a relaxed welcome dinner. A roka or engagement fits here too.

Day two: the Taj, haldi and sangeet

An optional sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, then a late-morning haldi and a lazy afternoon. The evening belongs to the sangeet: choreographed family performances, a live band or DJ, and an anchor keeping the night moving.

Day three: baraat, pheras and reception

The baraat sets off, perhaps behind a vintage car, and the bride walks in under a phoolon ki chadar. The varmala, the pheras at your muhurat and the vidaai follow. Where the muhurat allows, a reception takes the evening and closes with cold pyros or a sparkler send-off.

Frequently asked questions

Can we get married at the Taj Mahal?

No. The Taj Mahal is a protected monument and a mausoleum, so ceremonies are not held inside. Couples marry at a venue nearby, ideally with a view of the dome, and visit the Taj separately.

How much does a destination wedding in Agra cost?

It depends on guests, room nights, venue, dates, functions, décor and entertainment. Our budget planner is indicative, covering roughly ₹15 lakh to ₹50 crore for up to 5,000 guests; your proposal is built around your actual plan.

What is the best season for a wedding in Agra?

October to March, with November to February the busiest. Expect fog and cold nights in late December and January, very hot days from April to June, and rain from July to September.

Which venues in Agra have you worked at?

ITC Mughal, The Oberoi Amarvilas, Taj Convention, Jaypee Palace, Hilton, Taj Khema and Taj Mahotsav. You are also free to choose another venue in Agra, and we can plan your wedding there.

Can we do a pre-wedding shoot at the Taj Mahal?

Yes, as regular visitors and within the rules: no Fridays, no drones, no photography inside the main mausoleum, and ASI permission for professional filming. Check the rules close to your date; Mehtab Bagh, across the river, is a lovely alternative.

Do you plan NRI weddings in Agra?

Yes. We plan with you over WhatsApp and phone across time zones, hold hotel room blocks, arrange airport and station transfers and run a 24x7 guest help desk.

How early should we start planning?

As soon as your dates are fixed. Peak dates from November to February fill venues and hotel rooms early, so the venue and room blocks come first.
